Thermal comfort is a set of conditions such as air temperature, movement , and humidity, which make being in a space pleasant. Its measurement is subjective, as it depends on the sensation of thermal satisfaction of each person.

What are the key parameters for optimal thermal comfort?

There are 6 principles of thermal comfort to consider when choosing or designing your heating system:

  1. The type of clothing the wearer wears.
  2. The temperature of the room.
  3. The physical activity that is carried out in space.
  4. The speed of the air inside the room.
  5. The relative humidity of the space.
  6. The average radiant temperature of the room.

According to the Leusden and Freymark standard, the ideal temperature for properly dressed healthy adults is 18-22 ºC. For people with respiratory problems or allergies, it is not recommended below 16 ºC. The sick, the elderly, young children or people with disabilities require a minimum of 20 ºC.

With a temperature set to 21 ºC in winter, you can maintain an optimal level of thermal comfort without increasing your energy costs.
